Governance model · The essentials
Project-based learning, academically safeguarded
The college decides.
We build the context.
School of Work organises a professional learning environment within existing programmes, where students achieve their learning outcomes through real projects.
We do not create our own curriculum, award credits or degrees, or carry out formal assessments. The college retains exclusive authority over assessment, study progression and graduation. The model operates within the programme’s existing quality assurance and accreditation framework.
Education stays in charge
The college makes every formal decision. School of Work facilitates, structures, advises and provides evidence.
Roles remain separate
Guidance, assessment and decision-making are strictly separated. No actor combines these roles.
Evidence informs decisions
All output is visible, measurable and verifiable. Every decision is documented and explained.
Who does what
Those who guide do not assess. Those who provide the context do not decide.

The firm boundaries
The partner never assesses. No employment relationship is created during the learning path, and students do not replace regular staff. Hiring a student afterwards is possible.
School of Work never decides on passing, failing or graduation. The facilitator guides the process but does not assess.
There is no parallel system. Everything takes place within existing course units, under the college’s quality assurance.
Participation gives no advantage in assessment or graduation. Students earn their degree through the same learning outcomes as everyone else.
Every step is documented, auditable and reproducible. Conflicts follow a fixed escalation procedure, with the programme making the final decision.
Koen Vervaet developed this governance framework drawing on his experience as a service manager.
